Can members of the public access the Health Sciences Library?

Answer

As part of our commitment to advancing medical research throughout the State of Tennessee, non-UTHSC affiliated individuals may request access to the Health Sciences Library via appointment. Access to the library is appointment-only, M-F from 8am-6pm. To request an appointment, please email the Library or fill out the Public Patron Library Access Request form.

Please note the following expectations:

  • Public access is limited to the use of library resources such as electronic collections and databases. These resources may only be accessed via public computer terminals located within the Health Sciences Library. Library staff will grant access to the public computer terminals via guest login and will collect patron information, including a legal photo ID, to monitor access.
  • Due to capacity, public patrons do not have access to advanced library services, including librarian research assistance, literature review services, or consultations regarding scholarly communications or publishing.
  • Requesting general library access does not pertain to use of the Health Sciences Library's Historical Collections. To request access, please visit The UTHSC Health Sciences Historical Collections webpage.
  • Access to the Lamar Alexander Building and Health Sciences Library is controlled by badge access. To enter the library, public patrons are required to make an appointment with the Health Sciences Library Information Desk and call to the desk upon arrival for an escort into the building. The phone number for the Information Desk is 901-448-5634
  • Failure to comply with the above policies may result in a loss of library privileges and access to the Health Sciences Library in the future.
